The
Cranio Sacral System is a recently discovered physiological
structure consisting of a semi-closed hydraulic system. A
tough, waterproof membrane, the Dura Mater envelops the brain
and spinal cord. An important function of this system is the
production, circulation and re-absorption of the Cerebrospinal
fluid. The CSF is produced within the Cranio Sacral System
and maintains the physiological environment in which your
brain and the nervous system develop, live and function. Normal
production and re-absorption of CSF allow a continuous rise
and fall of fluid pressure. The expansion and contraction,
due to the rhythmical pressure fluctuation, accommodates the
pressure within the system thus allowing it to remain normal.
Pressure changes which the body cannot accommodate, due to
stress or trauma, eventually results in dysfunction and ill
health.
During a Cranio Sacral Therapy session, the therapist is as
unobtrusive as possible using the lightest of touch. The client's
body and system is palpated, then a series of gentle manipulation
techniques are administered to remove minor restrictions in
the flow of CSF. This method of "Still Point" improves
the blood flow and redirects the force of fluid. This method
of restricting the flow of CSF repeatly, allows the obstruction
to eventually succumb and then release. The ripple effect
of this technique benefits the recipient physically and often
has profound emotional benefits leaving the client with a
euphoric feeling.
